A mid-sized house that kept its place

It has grown steadily without gaining ground: assets rose 11.5% in the last year, against 13.1% for the industry.

43 schemes
Counting each open-ended scheme once by its Direct Growth plan, Sundaram runs 43: 24 equity, 10 debt, 6 hybrid, 2 fund-of-funds and 1 index fund. The equity count includes several closed series of its tax-saving fund. Largest by average assets in July–September 2026:

Where the funds rank
Direct Growth returns to 16 October 2026, annualised; rank is among Direct Growth funds in the same category with that much history.

| Services | 0.06% | 12.76% | 75 of 142 | 11.24% | 51 of 102 |

| Large Cap | −4.42% | 6.92% | 27 of 30 | 6.75% | 20 of 27 |
| Value | −7.75% | 5.68% | 21 of 21 | 6.34% | 17 of 17 |
The two best-ranked funds, Mid Cap and Small Cap, are in the top half of their categories over three and five years. The Aggressive Hybrid fund, the second largest scheme, is 26th of 28 over three years, and the Value fund is last of 21. Over one year the Large and Midcap fund is 6th of 33, though its five-year rank is 16th of 26.
The cost column
This is where Sundaram stands out. On AMFI's expense filings of early October 2026:
| Fund | Direct TER | Category median |
|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure Advantage | 1.80% | 1.15% |
| ELSS Tax Saver | 1.77% | 1.07% |
| Value | 1.76% | 1.24% |
| Consumption | 1.72% | 1.15% |
| Multi-Factor | 1.65% | 1.15% |
| Focused | 1.35% | 1.09% |
| Large and Midcap | 1.29% | 1.07% |
| Mid Cap | 1.06% | 0.94% |
| Large Cap | 0.86% | 1.06% |
| Flexicap | 0.86% | 0.95% |
Five funds charge 0.5 to 0.7 points above their category's middle fund, and two of them, ELSS Tax Saver and Value, also rank in the bottom few of their categories over three years. The Large Cap and Flexicap funds are the opposite, cheaper than their medians. The Direct versus Regular gap is about 1.16 points; a 0.7-point difference between two Direct funds is more than half of that, and it compounds the same way.
What the numbers do not tell you
Rank is not a forecast. A mid-cap fund that is 11th of 29 over three years had a three-year run that favoured mid caps; the same fund was 25th of 31 over one year.
Averages hide closed series. Sundaram's tax-saver series appear in the ELSS ranking; they are closed schemes and are not comparable to an open fund you can buy today.
Average AUM is for the quarter, not the day, and a liquid fund can swing it by thousands of crores.
None of this is a recommendation to buy or sell any fund.
