What a monthly SIP earned

A SIP return is the annualised rate (XIRR) on ₹10,000 invested on the same date each month for 60 months, ending 23 October 2026, for the Direct plan, Growth option. It differs from the five-year lump-sum return because the instalments are not all invested for five years. Only funds with a full 60 months of history are counted: 312 equity funds.

What to take from it

  • A SIP leaderboard says what happened, not what will. Funds at the top after a rally often sit lower after a fall.
  • Compare the two return columns. Where the SIP return is below the lump-sum return, most of the gain came early in the five years, before many of the instalments were made.
  • The best fund in a category is not always a good choice for a particular investor; check its risk and cost on its fund page.
  • Returns are historical and computed from NAVs. This is not a recommendation to buy or sell any fund.

Frequently asked questions

Which equity fund has the best 5-year SIP return?

Bandhan Small Cap Fund, with a monthly SIP return of 20.89% a year over the 60 months to 23 October 2026 (Direct plan, Growth option). The median across 312 equity funds with a five-year record was 9.91%.

How does a Nifty 50 SIP compare?

A ₹10,000 monthly SIP in the Nifty 50 price index over the same 60 months returned about 3.72% a year, before dividends. 306 of the 312 equity funds beat it.

Why is SIP return different from the 5-year return?

A five-year return assumes one lump sum at the start. A SIP buys a little each month, so the instalments made late in the period had less time to earn and the result depends on the path of prices, not only the start and end.
