Large Cap −4.14% 9.30% 14 of 30 8.59% 8 of 27

The Mid Cap fund is in the top five of its category over three and five years, and it is the house's largest scheme. The Multi Cap fund matches it over three years, and the Equity Savings fund is second of 20. Most of the rest are in the middle of their categories, and the Flexi Cap and Large Cap funds are 8th of 27 over five years. The funds in the lower half over three years are Small Cap (15th of 26) and Focused (15th of 27).

Arbitrage 1.53% 1.44%

All but the Arbitrage fund charge less than the category's middle fund, most by 0.2 to 0.4 points. That puts Edelweiss alongside Invesco and Canara Robeco among the houses whose bigger funds are priced under the median. The Mid Cap fund pairs a fee 0.26 points under its category median with the house's best rank.

What the numbers do not tell you

Index funds change the picture of size. A third of the house's schemes are index funds, yet the ten largest schemes above include only one fund-of-funds and no index fund; the number of schemes says little about where the money is.

Rank flat, assets doubled. A house can double its assets and keep its place; rank measures the field, not the house.

Short records. Several funds have under five years of history, so their five-year column is blank, and their three-year rank is drawn from a period that favoured mid caps.

None of this is a recommendation to buy or sell any fund.
