Almost everything rose
In April 2026, 47 of the 50 stocks in the current Nifty 50 rose. In March only four had. The median stock gained 7.9%, against 7.5% for the Nifty 50 itself, and 30 of the 50 rose more than the index.

HCL Technologies did most of its fall in one session: it lost 10.8% on 22 April.
March's order, turned over again
In March the order of February had flipped. April flipped March's. The ten stocks that fell most in March gained an average of 13.0% in April; the ten that held up best in March gained an average of 3.3%.
Three of March's four worst are on April's leader board: Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finance and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles. Going the other way, Sun Pharma, Apollo Hospitals and Max Healthcare are among April's laggards, from a group that had held up better than most in March.
Taking the two months together, 20 of the 50 stocks ended April above their 27 February close. Nestle India (+12.9%), Hindalco (+12.2%) and Coal India (+11.8%) gained most over the two months.

The IT group split down the middle. Wipro (+6.9%), Tech Mahindra (+6.5%) and TCS (+4.9%) rose; Infosys and HCL Technologies fell.
