February's order, turned over

The month undid much of February's ranking. The ten best Nifty 50 stocks of February, listed in our February stocks post, fell an average of 11.2% in March. February's ten worst fell an average of 6.6%.

The IT stocks are the clearest case. All five fell between 15% and 22% in February; in March Tech Mahindra rose 1.9%, HCL Technologies fell 3.4% and Infosys 3.8%, while TCS fell 10.6%. Going the other way, State Bank of India (+11.6% in February) and Eicher Motors (+12.5%) were among March's ten worst.

One month's reversal is not a rule. It is simply what these two months show.

What this does not tell you

Membership is the current list. A stock that joined or left the Nifty 50 recently is treated as a member for the whole month.

Prices, not total returns. Dividends are left out.

A sector label hides a lot. Coal India and Reliance share one, and moved 8 points apart this month. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any stock.
