Each row is the first daily close at or above the level, not the first intraday touch, and not a promise that the level held: Gold has since closed below nine of these levels after first reaching them. The record starts on 30 August 2000 at ₹404.
Fastest and slowest legs
- Fastest: from ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 took 44 days (2 September 2025 to 16 October 2025).
- Slowest: from ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 took 7.6 years (31 August 2012 to 24 March 2020).
The legs are not equal in percentage terms: ₹1,000 on top of ₹1,000 is a doubling, while ₹1,000 on top of ₹10,000 is 10%. The early legs look quick in rupees and slow in percentage, and the late ones are the reverse.
Where it stands
The highest close on record is ₹15,738 on 29 January 2026. On 20 October 2026 Gold was at ₹12,652, 19.6% below that peak and below the ₹15,000 level it first reached on 28 January 2026.
Reading the table
- Round numbers are a way to read history, not a signal. Nothing about ₹15,000 makes it more or less likely to hold than ₹15,001.
- A metal pays no income, so its price is the whole return; compare it with an index only after allowing for that.
- The series is the India rate per gram, which includes the rupee's moves against the dollar.
