The year in one table
Gold has finished 2026 so far almost where it began, after a trip to the top and back. On 20 October 2026 the India rate was ₹12,673 a gram, 1.1% above the ₹12,529.1 of 31 December 2025. Silver was ₹176.2 a gram, 12.9% below ₹202.4.
Between those dates the metals each peaked in February and fell hard in March and June. The table shows the last rate in each month, taken from WealthTicker's daily India rate series (the method is described on the gold and silver price page).

What the months show
A rise and a round trip. Gold climbed 22.6% from the December level to the end of February (12,529.1 to 15,355.1) and has since given up 17.5% of that peak. Silver rose 34.0% to its February high of ₹271.2 and is now 35.0% below it. The first two months of the year and the last eight are almost mirror images.
Silver moved further each time. Gold's monthly changes ranged from +11.8% to -13.2%. Silver's ranged from +17.4% to -22.4%. In eight of the nine completed months silver's move was the larger one; July, when gold rose 2.7% and silver fell 2.3%, was the exception. The two metals pointed in opposite directions in only two months, April (gold +0.2%, silver -1.0%) and July.
More up months than down for gold, but the down months were big. Six of nine completed months were gains for gold, three were falls (March, June, September). The three falls took off 8.2%, 13.2% and 5.9%. For silver the count was four up and five down.
June was the sharpest. Gold lost 13.2% in the month and silver 22.4%. After it, gold ended July at ₹12,634.5, a rate within 1% of where the October figure now sits.
The gold-silver ratio
Dividing the gold rate by the silver rate shows how many grams of silver one gram of gold buys:
- 31 December 2025: 61.9
- 27 February 2026 (the peak month end): 56.6
- 20 October 2026: 71.9
The ratio fell while both rose in the first two months, because silver rose faster, and has risen since, because silver fell faster. The long view of the ratio is in gold-silver ratio 2026.
Caveats
- Month-end points, not paths. The table shows the last rate in each month. A metal could have swung much more inside a month than the change suggests.
- India rate, not the global price. The series is the India rupee price per gram, so the rupee's movement against the dollar is part of every change shown. Gold in rupees versus gold in dollars separates the two.
- Taxes and making charges are not in the rate. GST and jewellers' making charges come on top of a shop price.
- No forecast. These are past moves. Nothing here says which way the next one goes.
