The run
FIIs have been net sellers of Indian equities on nine sessions in a row, from Thursday 24 September to Wednesday 7 October 2026. The total is a net sale of ₹57,469 crore. DIIs were net buyers on every one of the same nine days, for a total of ₹55,462 crore.
The figures are NSE's daily provisional cash-market numbers for FIIs/FPIs and DIIs. The data has no session for 2 October, so 1 October and 5 October count as consecutive.
| Date | FII net (₹ crore) | DII net (₹ crore) |
|---|---|---|
| 24 Sep | −5,027 | +4,301 |
| 25 Sep | −3,694 | +2,838 |
| 28 Sep | −5,353 | +5,189 |
| 29 Sep | −9,980 | +6,953 |
| 30 Sep | −10,148 | +11,272 |
| 1 Oct | −9,484 | +10,042 |
| 5 Oct | −4,699 | +5,182 |
| 6 Oct | −2,961 | +5,089 |
| 7 Oct | −6,121 | +4,597 |
| Nine sessions | −57,469 | +55,462 |
The heaviest three days were back to back: 29 September, 30 September and 1 October, each with a net FII sale of more than ₹9,000 crore. Together they account for ₹29,613 crore of the total, just over half.
Domestic buying matched it almost exactly
On four of the nine days, 30 September and 1, 5 and 6 October, DII buying exceeded the FII sale. On 30 September, DIIs bought ₹11,272 crore against ₹10,148 crore of foreign selling, the largest daily DII figure in the run. Across the nine sessions the two roughly cancel: ₹57,469 crore sold by one side, ₹55,462 crore bought by the other, a difference of about ₹2,000 crore.
That pattern is not new this year. Through 7 October 2026 the data shows FIIs with a net sale of ₹4,26,334 crore and DIIs with a net purchase of ₹6,64,444 crore, across 189 sessions. DIIs have been net buyers on 170 of them. For the full-year picture, see FII selling in 2026 so far and DII buying.
How it compares with this year's other runs
A streak counts consecutive sessions of net selling. Since the data begins in September 2024, the longest were:
| Run | Sessions | Net FII sale |
|---|---|---|
| 26 Feb – 9 Apr 2026 | 27 | ₹1,73,188 crore |
| 3 Jan – 3 Feb 2025 | 23 | ₹92,384 crore |
| 19 Feb – 17 Mar 2025 | 17 | ₹56,373 crore |
| 5 Jan – 27 Jan 2026 | 15 | ₹40,794 crore |
| 24 Sep – 7 Oct 2026 (so far) | 9 | ₹57,469 crore |
Nine sessions is not a long streak by those standards, but the amount is large for its length: ₹6,385 crore a session on average, against ₹6,414 crore a session in the 27-day run. The current run is as intense per day as the biggest one of the year, only shorter.
The month so far
October has four sessions of data: 1, 5, 6 and 7 October. FIIs sold a net ₹23,266 crore and DIIs bought ₹24,909 crore. September, a month of 21 sessions, ended with an FII net sale of ₹44,013 crore and DII purchases of ₹76,030 crore. So four sessions in October have already produced more than half of September's foreign selling.
What the Nifty did
The Nifty 50 closed at 23,446.80 on 23 September and 22,603.05 on 7 October, a fall of 3.60%. The index's P/E on the latter date was 19.34, per the Nifty 50 valuation page.
Whether the selling pushed the index or the other way round is not something these numbers can answer, and an earlier look at FII selling and Nifty returns found the link looser than headlines suggest.
What this does not tell you
It is a cash-market figure. FIIs also trade in index futures and options, which these numbers leave out, and their primary-market purchases, such as IPOs, are not included either.
Provisional data gets revised. The earlier days in this window are marked as backfilled in our database, from a different source than NSE's daily release for 30 September onwards. Small differences are possible.
A streak ends. There is no signal in a run length about what happens next, and nothing here is a prediction.

Frequently asked questions
How much have FIIs sold in the current streak?
FIIs were net sellers on each of the nine sessions from 24 September to 7 October 2026, a total of ₹57,469 crore on NSE's provisional cash-market figures. Over the same nine sessions DIIs were net buyers every day, ₹55,462 crore in all.
How long was the longest FII selling streak in 2026?
From 26 February to 9 April 2026 FIIs were net sellers on 27 sessions in a row, a total of ₹1,73,188 crore. The current run of nine is a third of that length and about a third of its value.
Did the Nifty 50 fall during the streak?
Yes. The Nifty 50 closed at 23,446.80 on 23 September, the session before the streak began, and at 22,603.05 on 7 October, a fall of 3.60%. That is a coincidence of timing in these figures, not proof that FII selling caused the fall.
