What stands out

Two days made up half the selling. 1 October (₹9,484 crore) and 8 October (₹12,944 crore) together account for ₹22,428 crore, 45% of the month's total. 8 October was the largest single day, and DIIs bought ₹10,703 crore against it.

The selling slowed in the middle. Over the three sessions from 12 to 14 October FIIs sold between ₹1,305 crore and ₹1,857 crore a day, a fraction of the first week's pace. Then 15 October returned to ₹5,285 crore.

16 October was the exception. FIIs bought ₹1,166 crore and DIIs sold ₹3,661 crore, the only session where the two groups moved the other way. DIIs bought again on 19 October.

DIIs matched FIIs almost exactly. The gap between the two totals is ₹1,451 crore. Net, domestic buying absorbed the foreign selling in the cash segment, though on single days the two differed: on 8 October DIIs bought ₹2,241 crore less than FIIs sold, and on 6 October ₹2,128 crore more.

Against recent months

Month FII net (₹ crore) DII net (₹ crore) Sessions
July -5,779 +35,099 23
August -7,532 +58,268 21
September -44,013 +76,030 21
October to 19th -49,918 +51,369 12

July and August saw almost no net foreign selling. September returned to ₹44,013 crore, and October passed that in 12 sessions. DII buying in October, at ₹51,369 crore, is below September's ₹76,030 crore but the month is not finished.

Limits of this data

  • Provisional and cash only. These are NSE's daily cash-market figures. They exclude derivatives, and they do not capture primary-market purchases or sales on other venues.
  • Gaps in dates. The table lists the sessions in the database. 2 October and 20 October do not appear: the first was a market holiday, and the second had not been published when the figures were pulled.
  • Not a signal. Net flows describe what happened. This post says nothing about what comes next.

For the longer view, see FII and DII flows for the third quarter of 2026, the earlier October so far post, and how FII selling and DII buying offset each other by quarter.
