The other side of the ledger
The most-quoted FII and DII records are the selling ones. We have covered the biggest FII selling days and the biggest DII buying days. This post covers the opposite pair: the days when foreign institutions bought the most, and the days when domestic institutions sold the most, in NSE's provisional daily cash-market figures since 10 September 2024. Figures are net purchases or sales in ₹ crore.

What to take from it
- The two sides tend to be on opposite sides of the same day: when FIIs sell hard, DIIs usually buy, and the reverse. Check the "that day" columns.
- Net figures hide the gross buying and selling behind them, and they cover the cash market only, not derivatives.
- The figures are NSE's provisional daily numbers. They are revised, and different sources can differ by small amounts.
- The Nifty 50 column is blank ("n/a") where our index series has no close for the date.

Do FII buying days lift the Nifty?
Often, but not always. In the table of the ten biggest FII buying days, compare the last column: the Nifty 50's change on the day. A big buy on a day when the market is already rising is not the same as a big buy that causes a rise.
