The lowest since December
Gold closed at ₹1,22,112 per 10 grams on Wednesday 24 June 2026. Not since 10 December 2025, when it closed at ₹1,21,314, has it ended a session lower.
That close was 22.4% below gold's highest, ₹1,57,381 on 29 January. By Friday 26 June it had edged up to ₹1,23,790, still 21.3% below the peak.
The prices are the international price (the COMEX futures close) converted to rupees at each day's dollar rate, the series on our gold and silver price page. Gold is for pure metal, and the figures are before import duty and GST.
June so far
Gold closed May at ₹1,40,829. Nineteen sessions later it is down 12.10%.
- The high of the month came early, ₹1,38,381 on 4 June. The next day gold fell 3.48%.
- The worst day was 10 June, a fall of 3.89%, from ₹1,31,057 to ₹1,25,954. There was another 3.12% fall on 18 June.
- The one real bounce was 12 June, up 3.17%, followed by a 1.98% gain on 15 June. The 3.12% fall on 18 June took back about half of it.
If June ended at Friday's close, it would be gold's worst month in our series. The current worst is March 2026, at −7.87%; before this year, no month had fallen more than 4.08% (September 2023).
The deepest fall in our records
Our gold series starts in September 2021. Before this year it had only one fall from a high of more than 10%.
| Peak | Trough | Fall | Sessions | Back to the old high |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 Mar 2022 | 26 Sep 2022 | −16.1% | 139 | 24 Jan 2023 |
| 4 May 2023 | 4 Oct 2023 | −9.6% | 105 | 2 Nov 2023 |
| 30 Oct 2024 | 15 Nov 2024 | −7.6% | 12 | 15 Jan 2025 |
| 20 Oct 2025 | 28 Oct 2025 | −8.3% | 6 | 11 Dec 2025 |
| 29 Jan 2026 | 24 Jun 2026 (so far) | −22.4% | 100 | not yet |
The current fall is six points deeper than 2022's, and its latest low came 100 sessions after the peak. The first big step came on 30 January, the day after the peak, when gold lost 11.62% in one session. March took another 7.87%. April and May were flat. June has taken the rest.
The year's gain is gone
At the end of May, gold was up 12.80% for 2026. On 26 June it was down 0.84% for the year, against its 2025 close of ₹1,24,843.
| Date | Gold, per 10 g | Change in 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 31 Dec 2025 | ₹1,24,843 | |
| 29 Jan 2026 (peak) | ₹1,57,381 | +26.06% |
| 31 Mar 2026 | ₹1,40,990 | +12.93% |
| 29 May 2026 | ₹1,40,829 | +12.80% |
| 26 Jun 2026 | ₹1,23,790 | −0.84% |
Over twelve months the picture is still positive. Gold is 34.3% above its level of a year earlier, ₹92,177 on 26 June 2025.
Silver has fallen further. It closed at ₹1,79,726 per kg on 26 June, 23.0% down for June so far and 46.9% below its own January peak.
The rupee added to the fall
Gold is priced in dollars, so a rupee price also moves with the exchange rate. In June so far the dollar has fallen 1.72% against the rupee, from about ₹96.05 at the end of May to ₹94.40 on 26 June. A firmer rupee lowers the rupee price of gold.
In dollar terms gold is down about 10.6% for June. The rupee's strength turned that into the 12.1% fall a rupee buyer sees.
What this does not tell you
A low is only a low until the next one. Gold made a lower close on 24 June than at any point since December; nothing in the price history says whether 24 June is the bottom.
The record is short. "Deepest fall in our series" covers four and a half years, from September 2021. It says nothing about earlier decades.
Spot is not what you pay. Gold funds and ETFs track the domestic price, which includes import duty, and carry an expense ratio; jewellery adds GST and making charges.
